The World As I Find It

Explore. Draw. Paint.

This work transforms broken, discarded, and burned objects into paintings. Found in the bush—a place where human traces linger in unexpected forms—these objects carry stories of past lives. While my paintings might seem abstract, they are rooted in the history and the physical reality of these objects.

Using an overhead projector, I cast the shapes of these items onto the canvas, where they become shadows. This process echoes Plato’s allegory of the cave: we sit in a cave, seeing only shadows of objects passing by a campfire behind us, unaware of their true nature unless we turn around. My paintings are like the cave wall—at first glance, an arrangement of shapes on a flat surface. But for those who choose to look deeper, these shapes reveal the histories and lives of the objects they represent.
